Is this how DA works?

Journal Entry: Sun Aug 26, 2007, 3:52 AM
Wow :iconmikutashi: and :iconamuria: have their pictures up on populars like, everytime they post something new! I wonder whether they got this popular from posting constant arts or because they are really young and talented artists...? Sigh... but I'm sorry to say, some other artists out there (who are around the same age) produce nicer arts! But they don't get 6,000 favs on one picture in one day! what a shame

Which brings me to get the idea; if any of my art was drawn by people like :iconzeiva: or :iconmessa:, would they get more favs as well?? or do people actually look at an art piece and judge it without even looking at who the artist is.

>.< I guess that's what :iconpropertyoftheuchiha:'s 'Amazing yet unappreciate artists' zone is all about eh? ahhh oh well, maybe that's how DA works :)

**sorry for really random post, was really bored. Sis is using the good computer! :(

On a totally different topic...
Heeeehee I was playing The Sims 2 today and I made Balthier and Ashe from FFXII. They are married, and they live at 3 Larsa Street. XDDD And I also made Luke Fon Fabre, but he is a shy and gay guy who's in love with a random sim I made called Gerard. hahahaha! Oh and Balthier's female collie dog is named Fran.

P.S. Ahhh so sorry! I made a mistake... the 'amazing yet unappreciated artists' journal is actually in :iconselphiroth:'s journal, not :iconpropertyoftheuchiha:'s. @_@ sorry for the confusion property-san!

In many ways dA is a massive popularity contest. If you think those are bad I have to say that I have seen more impressive "wtf"s as far as favourites are concerned, but I won't go there.

I certainly don't mean to make it sound like I resent the people for being popular. Both *messa and *zeiva are incredibly lovely people as well as being good artists; and I certainly have warmed up to people like =ramy who, even though his art isn't quite the kind of thing I like he's personality really was lovely. If anything, I actually feel bad for the people who are in constant public scrutiny. I know that I can't handle idiots anywhere near as well as most of them.

But even then, I have found it's a little funny how some people seem to have taken off without actually, well, for lacking of a nicer term, I honestly can't figure out how it happened. I won't link any of the names here though, that would just be mean. Then again, in the long run dA popularity really don't mean much. None of the art related work I have accepted came from the dA route in any ways or shapes, it's really just a gallery, and I really like the fact that I can interact with fellow artists. Beside that though, it really is all there is.

I make so much sense. XDDD

... O_O
I have an "amazing yet unappreciated artist zone??!"

know what i dont understand? .. why *frzdragon is so popular.
Seriously.

As for those others you have mentioned-- they are all of very high calliber, i think its because they constantly put out work that is at a certain standard.
Even if its not WOAH AWESOMMMMEE all the time,
its still "good."

And then, when you've learned to respect an artist, then that artist has a right to screw around a little.. because anything they come up with is "great". even if its just a dot colored pink and blue. LOL

aww yes, very meaningful comment, selphiroth-san. Yea I think i know what you mean about the 'I honestly can't figure out how it happened' thing. ^_^

Hm... yea but I actually envy you for your perception of art. me being the immature, competitive idiot that I am, certainly will take time to achieve that quality! honestly, I wasn't actually like this before. I really should rethink some stuff XD

but thank you so much for making me realise this! You're my DA idol now!!!! hahahahhaha

(my idol used to be :icontoounit: lol)

LOOL yes i guess you're absolutely right about the dot...

hm... that :iconfrzdragon: seems good... to me. XD but compared to you, yea I kinda wonder why @_@

btw what is with the DeviantID with the pixelart character and a picture behind, with computer-game-character stats? is it a trend around DA or something?

haha yeah its a trend called "pixel id" ... and it was spreading around DA so many people have it! :XD:
... well, i dont understand how [link] can have 864 favorites.

(-_-) ... can you?

WAH! dont compare Az to me! >_<
i'm a long way off and she is much better!!
but she also makes it to the front page a lot under "popular deviants today" and i think she is not bad, but she is also not good enough to be at THAT standing.. ^_^"

Oh believe me, you are anything but immature. Your journal was well thought out, the ideas are very well written and I think it's very, very understandable. And had you followed me for longer than a year you'd know that I'm particularly prone to random outbursts of "WAH PEOPLE DON'T LOVE ME WAH". You will be amazed. XDDD Seriously, I think so much of that is my own financial and career security at the particular time. Currently I can afford to see my art as a fun hobby that I don't really mind if no one appreciate it. At times when I feel like my art is what I need to pay my bills, I would start to run around in circles like a headless chicken. It's really quite funny if I may say so myself. I have no delusions about it though, not need to worry about your visibility is a luxury that I'm fully aware that not everyone can afford.

It's depressing but, I do have this feeling that a very, very minor proportion of people who got on top by being drama whores. Five years later, no one can remember exactly why they are famous, they just are. Combined with, lets say, if they are not too bad at drawing either, it's easy to become a big name that way. Kinda like (warning, controversial stuff here) Princess Diana, she will be remembered as an icon of an era, but only very few will actively remember that she's not there because she did anything particularly worthwhile (no, posing with disabled African children for once or twice don't count) but because she actively fed the tabloid and fueled upon her own fame. In fifty years that's probably where Paris Hilton will be too, sad stuff really.

However I personally believe that yes there is such a thing "negative fame" and the artists who I truly, truly respect are not the people who make drama just to attract attention. *zeiva is a nice, helpful person. *messa is a nice, helpful person. They may be quite famous, some may even suggest "overrated", but at least to me, I respect them as much for their beautiful work as for them being lovely people. Another person I can think of is =sashas, her popularity really isn't completely built on her art (even though are those art amazing or what), but also because she's a kind, patient, intelligent person who would take up so much of her own time to help others to improve. I just can't not love people like that.

Also something else I noticed, and I certainly don't want to come across like a elite bastard here but... In a way I think over accessibility is a two edged sword. I'm very happy where I am - true, people who could be my potential clients are not so likely to "accidentally" stumble upon on my gallery; but neither are the trolls, flamers, identity thieves or art thieves. I love how I can give out high resolution line arts for people who wants to colour them to colour them; but had I been more well known it would just be screaming "HAI ART THIEVES FREE MEAT ME". Then there are the ones who are not malicious but I can do without. Do you really want 200+ comments on every piece of your work screaming "KAWAII now go to my gallery!!11!!", or being treated as dA helpdesk on "why can't I put thumbnails into my journal!!!". I think I'll pass. XDDD

If I have to be fair though, I think you are underappreciated for sure. Try to link your gallery to as many of your other online accounts as possible. Put a URL link on every single piece of art you do, so in case if they ended up in any graphic ganking sites people can always find you as the artist. There really isn't much else I can think of now, saved for I really don't think the "dramawhore" route is worth while. And no, I don't think you are one. Not by far. As I have previously stated, I think you have well thought out the whole situation and handled it incredibly well, and for that how can I not respect you as a person and an artist?

And I think I just wrote a novel here. So I will end with a kitty face: =3

PS: :icontoounit: is my idol too! <333

Hehe... ^__^ I remember seeing another Journal on this subject somewhere else... I think that's just life on dA, it's always going to be like that. But they must have started somewhere.

All we can do is just work hard and do art for its own sake I guess! |D
